About Us

If you like sports, you’ll love us.  TJR features commentary from around the world of sports.  Whether it’s football, basketball, baseball or anything important, you can bet we’ll have something to say about it.

Here’s who we are:

BRIAN MATTHEWS

brian.jpgI’ve worked in pro sports my entire professional career. I’m currently with my third NBA franchise and have also worked for the NBA League Office. Yes, David Stern is one bad mutha…

I don’t pretend to know everything, but here’s a few things I do know:

There’s nothing like attending a school while it wins a National Championship. The Final Four was a better wing man than my friends ever were.

Favorite Sports Moments: Can’t pick just one, so here are a few: Tino and Brosius off of Byung Hyun Kim, Aaron Boone and Cuse cutting down the nets

Favorite Athlete I’ve met: Jack Nicklaus

Athlete I’d like to meet: Muhammad Ali

Cheese tastes good.

Favorite MLB Stadium (Excluding Wrigley, Fenway, and The Stadium): PNC Park in Pittsburgh with Petco a close 2nd

Favorite player to watch: Derek Jeter

On Bonds: they can’t make that asterisk big enough

The Red Sox have 11 pennants, 6 world championships and 30 players in the HOF. The Yankees have 39 pennants, 26 world championships and 40 players in the Hall. The numbers don’t lie.

Favorite NFL Player: Terrell Davis

Favorite college basketball announcer: Gus Johnson

College football announcer: Brent Musburger

NFL Announcer: nobody

NFL Analyst: Ron Jaworski

Peter Gammons is a homer - I think he could have something on the side with Curt Schilling. But he’s still the best there is.

Best sports movie: Hoosiers

Boxing isn’t dead - just watch anything other than the Heavyweight division and you’ll see what I mean.

The NHL wonders where things went wrong. Hmm, they took hockey out of Quebec, Hartford and Winnipeg and put teams in Phoenix, Nashville and Atlanta

Tiger Woods is really good.

Favorite sports quote: “Ain’t no place like the Carrier Dome.” - Carmelo Anthony responding to a reporter who asked him if Madison Square Garden was the greatest place he’d played basketball
